The Committee for the History of Science and Technology represents the history of all branches of science: humanities and sciences. It cultivates the traditions of domestic and world scientific and technical thought, contributing to the knowledge of the origins and ways of development of achieved cultural achievements and to a better understanding of the present day.
 
The Committee for the History of Science and Technology of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established on 24 May 1952 during the first meeting of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was called then "The Committee of the History of Science". The present name and the organizational form were given in 1963. The Committee also fulfils the role of the National Committee for Cooperation with the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science / Division of the History of Polish Science and Technology (IUHPS/DHST).(INTERNATIONAL UNION OF THE HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE /DIVISION OF HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (IUHPS/DHST).
